Without change there is no progress even in photography

Change often causes people stress, especially when it comes to some photographers. I see many of those photographers every day. A new tool comes out, be it a camera feature, software tool, or whatever else and photography is dead. “Real photographers don’t need that!” Digital photography killed “real photography”. I don’t believe any of those statements, but I see them nearly every day.

The current technology that is often the brunt of criticism today is artificial intelligence. Many fear that it, artificial intelligence will replace them. Maybe it will maybe it won’t but what I have found is that the way artificial intelligence is currently positioned in my workflow in photography is the mundane tasks are faster and less tedious. Things that used to take significantly longer can now take mere moments to accomplish. This frees up time to be more productive and creative. Without change we are forever stuck in the past.

I love going the Summit Art Photographers and Friends meetings. People have friendly constructive criticism, but I also see new ideas in photography techniques, printing, composition and presentation.

I donโ€™t want to copy them, but I can use the ideas to expand my photography so that I donโ€™t get stuck in a rut. It also makes me excited to get out and try something new.

    Thanks, Clay.

Its depend on the changes. Changes in software or new photographic gear are not really interesting to me. These “features” are not really adding to photography as itself, but maybe to the process of taking images. I don’t hurry to any place – its why i’m photographing – i love the process of finding the “right” moment or the interesting object for my frames. Same about film photography – i always develop only one specific roll with the full dedication, and scan my frames one after one – no batches, and no automatization of the process. I don’t care about AI, and don’t scare that it will replace me. Replace for what ? For what i doing for myself ? No way ๐Ÿ™‚

I disagree with you that “these features are not really. adding to photography”. Just like new film, better lenses, these features enhance photography.

I mean to the content of the frame not to the “quality” because the last one is very controversial – Ansel Adams and Vivian Maier photographed without these additional features and their photography is still outstanding in all terms.
